The bag of bags. Don’t lie, don’t be ashamed. We all have one. It’s ugly. It’s a lot of plastic and it’s a necessary evil. No matter how many times I ask for paper (because I ALWAYS leave the bags in my car!) I end up with a million plastic bags that can’t go into the garbage. Where do these all come from?!?
So the other day when I had 75 things on my to do list, and cleaning out the back pantry was most certainly not on that list, I decided that I simply could not go on until I cleaned out the back pantry. And the biggest issue of the back pantry was the bag of plastic bags. Naturally. It was then a drop everything and sew emergency situation.
Need this level of procrastination organization in your life too? Don’t worry. I got you!

You Will Need:
1 Fat Quarter (18 X 22 inches) This does not need to be exact
9 inch long elastic. I used 3/4 inch wide, but again, this does not need to be exact.
4 inch long ribbon or fabric for hanging
Iron, ruler, safety pin and all the other sewing necessities
We are going to start with the bottom hem. On one of the 18 inch sides of the fat quarter, fold under 1/4 inch and press. Top stitch to keep hem in place.

On the other end of the 18 inch side, we will make the elastic casing. Fold under 1/4 inch. Press. Fold over again, but this time fold it down an inch. Top stitch along the bottom edge.

Pin a safety pin to one end of your elastic piece and feed it through your casing.

Once the un safety pinned edge of the elastic is all the way in, zig zag stitch over that end. When you work the elastic to the other end, remove the safety pin, and zig zag stitch over the fabric with the elastic inside.

Trim any elastic that may be hanging out. Since the elastic is more narrow than the casing, it will make it bunch up giving that smaller hole to keep the bags in.
With the right sides together, sew down the long 22 inch side of your fat quarter. This makes the shape now a long cylinder.

On the non elastic hem end, zig zag stitch your hanger. I used a piece of scrap knit for some give, but any ribbon or scrap fabric would work here!

Now it’s all ready to be stuffed (and this thing holds A LOT!!!) and hung and hopefully now you’ll be able to organize your pantry and move on with your day as well!!
