For the past decade we were blessed with a remarkable principal at our school. In my role as PTO president for (many!) years, she and I became quite close. As she had dedicated many years to her wonderful career in the Catholic school’s in our area, I knew her time to retire would be upon us. So what is a quilter to do to signify a big milestone as a thank you? Make a quilt of course!

My family actually helped with the design input, and color choices, which I absolutely loved! We knew we wanted a cross as the focal point, and a little bit of plaid in the corner stones.

For the cross part, I free motion quilted a wood grain pattern with swirls all around the background squares.

I may be slightly biased, but I can’t think of a better way to thank someone and celebrate a wonderful career than by gifting a quilt!
