Jumping on the Quilt Coat Trend

Soon after I made my quilt coat to wear to quilt con 2024, the weather started to warm up, and I kind of forgot about it. With the weather cold again in my neck of the woods, I’m finally remembering to post all about the quilt coat that I made many months ago!

I knew I wanted my coat to be cropped. I didn’t want it to be an oversized loose thing, and so I hunted and hunted and hunted for the right pattern. I ended up going with the Chiono pattern by sewillow.

I had a lot of scraps left over from my AMH Bed quilt that I made a few years back, so I pieced them all into big panels to use to cut up for my coat.

Once everything was pieced together, I laid it all out on the long arm and just straight line quilted everything. Then I cut out the pieces for the jacket from these quilted panels.

I wanted to add a bit of a funky flare to it, so once leave is the print, and the other sleeve shows the purple lining. The pockets did the same but on opposite sides.

I absolutely adore this jacket! It is so fun to wear. One of the big questions I got at Quilt Con, was if I would ever wear it again out in the.” Real world” And I can assure you, this jacket has definitely gotten it’s use in!
